Does not make sense for US customers. No support for US 4G LTE bands. Need B2, B4, B12.

Looking at it that way, virtually no China phones would make sense for USA. 99.9% of China brand phones (excepting the ones bought retail in USA, eg USA Huawei) don’t work on American LTE.

The point re 3G in this article is that many China phones now coming 900/2100 WCDMA, thus stuck with 2G, but not so with Elephone P20. Nice to see 850/1900 supported.

H+ is very fast. I can’t tell a difference when surfing with LTE vs WCDMA.

Many Huaweis, some Lenovos, ZTEs and Coolpads do work in US 3G bands. I happily use Huawei X1 at T-Mobile’s MNVO (or MVNO, do not know correct version) Simple Mobile.
Yes, H+ is pretty fast. But the problem is that providers push customers to 4G an slowly cut 3G. I found more and more spots here in LA that have either very slow 3G or no 3G at all. It sux…

Hi Alex, I think you might have misunderstood. There are quite a few China models that support USA 3G… Lately, many manufacturers of late have been concentrating mainly on Euro/UK. Leagoo, Oukitel, UMi, Ulefone, Elephone etc… The bigger brands such as Lenovo, Meizu, Xiaomi and such are still carrying USA 3G bands. So, we’re in agreement. Sometimes I don’t have the time to lay it out in 1000 words with exactitude. My fault for assuming.

in fact, some Huaweis (P8, Mate8 and some more WORK at T-Mo 4G LTE. Lenovo menaces Phab 2 to support B2, B4 and B12, for USA. Besides, seen some articles that some people could activate some additional LTE bands at Snapdragon 650, which is Xiaomi Max. I emailed Gearbest support with proposition to activate necessary bands and sell these to US. They refused…

Yes, these are the USA models I’m speaking of and was referring to when I said “Huawei etc…”; generally very expensive phones that no one from USA is going to be shelling out $400+ for to buy overseas gray market, and will likely *mostly* be bought retail in America. Again, I was hoping things could be read between the lines without having to lay it out, but there it is.

Gearbest doesn’t have the power to unlock bands. They’d probably have a difficult time flashing an SD update.
This is up to Xiaomi and the radios they include.

Yes, there have been some various loopholes people have tried to exploit “unlocking bands” in the past, but this has been more myth than reality, with little to no success in current times.

Or longer. :D. As you know, I haven’t been a big fan of Elephone, but they do seem to be improving build with each new generation. And this one has interesting pricing and specs. Let’s see what’s up.

Shouldn’t the specs read 8xA53 cores and not 8xA73! That would be a hell of a chip if it did have 8 A73 cores!!

You’re absolutely right Robert. Thanks for the heads up.
