False hype or sincere?
Since the beginning, Elephone has been a huge hype machine, using questionable marketing practices to generate buzz about their brand.
Their phones haven’t been much better, with many models having a large number of complaints about series issues. Still, they’ve released several winners as well and have brought a lot of attention to the mid-range China brand market.
They’ve also stayed away from producing extreme budget sub-$100 models unlike Doogee and iNew, preferring to have their name associated with a slightly higher-tier product.
No matter what you think of Elephone, there’s no denying they’ve gotten themselves known and they’re one of the hottest topics in the world of China phones.
Branching beyond phones
Taking a cue from Xiaomi, they’ve pushed far beyond mobile phones, into powerbanks, gaming keyboards, action cams, and smartwatches.
Now stepping up to the plate further, they’ve announced an intriguing device, a fingerprint encrypted USB thumb drive / U-disk.
Public Private
The U-Disk from Elephone will allow users to have two separate areas. One for easy public access, and another that can only be accessed via unlocking through fingerprint. When the fingerprint fails, users can enter a pin/password.
The U-disk will be encased in a slick looking metal jacket and support Android, MacOS, Windows, and Linux.
