About 18 months into it and dual-cameras may already be old news. Now Huawei is touted to release Huawei P20 with a triple-camera in the rear.
Huawei didn’t bat an eye when AT&T and the US government shut them down; onward, upward, and looking forward the P20 will be officially announced 27-MAR-2018 at a standalone event in Paris, as opposed to at MWC in Barcelona.
The total effective resolution is 40MP, but much of this combined resolution from the three sensors will be used towards computational functions such as with its 5x optical/digital hybrid zoom, denoise, and HDR algorithms. The front camera will be 24MP.
As with many Huawei phones, they continue to work with Leica of Germany to develop their camera tech. How much is actually tech developed by Leica and how much is simply a branding scheme is unknown.
Whatever the case, Huawei is known for putting out some excellent cameras in their phones, especially from their recently released Mate 10 Pro, and I expect the P20 will bring them to new heights.
