“‘ere’s more ‘an one way ta skin a bear” my grand-pappy used to say. At least, I think that’s what he said. He was rather toothless and difficult to understand. Regardless, there’s definitely more than one way to stream your videos, and access your media files and documents on your networked PC with your Android smartphone.
While I’ll attempt to cover several more methods in future posts, the one I personally use and prefer is outlined here. If you just need to stream videos or just need to open a specific file type, you may not need to install all suggested apps. The reason I use this method and these apps specifically:
- Subtitle support for videos / movies
- All major document / video / media types supported
- All free, excellent apps
- No ads during video playback with free version
If you haven’t done so already, you’ll need to prepare your computer to share on the LAN network. Follow these 2 tutorials first and then go to page 2 of this how-to.
- How to configure shared folders for Android LAN access (opens different how-to post in new tab)
- How to configure firewall for Android LAN access (opens different how-to post in new tab)
