Cyanogenmod for MediaTek MTK6589T China Phones! Cyanogen goes commercial!

chinaphone-mtk6589t-cyanogenmod While anyone who keeps up with the mobile industry likely knows that Cyanogen has gone commercial, what might not be known is that Cyanogen is now being developed for MediaTek MTK6589T China phones. In particular, the little talked about Faea brand is currently deep into development of Cyanogen firmware. This will be the first Cyanogen firmware for China phones with the MediaTek SoC, so it’s quite a big deal.

The bigger picture here is that once it’s released for Faea, we should see an explosion of Cyanogen firmwares available for many of the popular China brands. This will come about either by being developed specifically for those models or via versions ported over. The first model to receive CM / Cyanogenmod will be the Faea F2S. We’ve been assured this will be developed by the Cyanogen team specifically for the MTK6589T chipset and Faea F2S, not a port.

Something similar happened to the many Linux distribution, RedHat’s purchase by IBM gave birth to Fefora. I think Ubuntu arrived or became popular short lay thereafter.

In any case, unless you like compiling and debugging I think RedHat Linux distribution still costs money. Right or wrong.

People wanting a different outcome may want to take a closer look at the financial and commercial history of Linux, BSD (one branch evolved into MacOS/iOS) and even System V and PDP 11.

      Of course. But we still don’t a single instance of CyanogenMod for MTK phones. CyanogenMod was mainly developed for Qualcomm and Exynos based devices. Once it’s been developed for MTK, it will be a much simpler process of porting.

  Hi Marcos, as far as I know there is no CM11 or KitKat 4.4 for Hero H7500+ and likely never will be. Sorry for the bad news.
