In the last article, I made the suggestion that if you don’t have a smartphone, or if you’re currently unable to play games and common format movies, then you ought to go with a current or soon to be released mtk mt6577 / mtk6577 CPU smartphone rather than waiting for MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 CPU tech to arrive.
Why am I saying that, when the MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 CPU has already been successfully implemented in test phones? There are several reasons… The first and foremost, is because I believe it will be a minimum wait of 4 months before we see the first actual release of MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 CPU smartphones to the public.
Even then, they may not be readily available to people outside of China. Looking at the current popularity of mt6577 CPU smartphones and how difficult they are to come by, at first, MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 CPU based smartphones will likely be even harder to come by than the current generation of MTK based smartphones.
Another point is made by looking at how long it’s taking current mtk mt6577 / mtk6577 CPU based smartphones to come out. We are still waiting on smartphones which were announced months ago, such as the JiaYu/JaiYu g3, to come out. In fact there are few smartphone models with mtk mt6577 / mtk6577 tech actually available to purchase. It’s reportedly an issue with licensing in China, but there are also reports of mtk mt6577 / mtk6577 CPU shortages.
I welcome your comments. More to come in part 3 of MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 or mtk mt6577 / mtk6577.
