MTK MT6588 / MTK6589 vs Qualcomm’s MSM8225Q and MSM8625Q (Part 2)

In part 1 of this series, we discussed some about the battery saving features of the MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 and MSM8225Q/MSM8625Q.

Cortex-A7, which is used in the MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 is ARM’s newest architecture, developed about a year ago and scheduled to start coming out in phones Q4 2012 / Q1 2013. Cortex-A5 used by Qualcomm’s MSM8225Q / MSM8625Q is a bit older, having been developed in 2008.

On paper, the MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 is the clear winner in the GPU department. With this generation CPU, MTK is using the SGX544, which is a 4-threaded core GPU. It has full support for DirectX 9 and Open GL 2.1. The SGX544 can output 55 million triangles per second, and has a pixel fill rate of 1.6 GPixels per second. Qualcomm’s MSM8225Q / MSM8625Q will have on board the Adreno 203 with a render rate of 49 million pixels per second, and pixel fill rate of 0.3 Gpixels per second.

Easy KO in the GPU department for MTK MT6589 / MTK6589.
