In part 1, we discussed some about the battery saving features of the MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 and Qualcomm’s MSM8225Q / MSM8625Q. In part 2, we discussed the GPUs in MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 and Qualcomm’s MSM8225Q / MSM8625Q.
While it remains to be seen which will be the winner in the power saving department, we do know that Cortex-A7 used in the MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 is the newest in MTK’s Cortex line, and the Cortex-A5 in Qualcomm’s MSM8225Q / MSM8625Q is coming up on 5 years long in the tooth.
We also know that on paper, the SGX544 in the MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 is easily a better GPU than the Adreno 203 in Qualcomm’s MSM8225Q / MSM8625Q.
Okay, enough of the recap and on to the Juice. The memory of both CPUs will be similar. Both support LPDDRI and LPDDR2 memory at frequencies up to 1066Mbps.
The MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 fully supports 1080p recording and decoding, while the MSM8225Q / MSM8625Q only supports 720p. MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 with another slam dunk!
Both MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 and Qualcomm’s MSM8225Q / MSM8625Q will support up to 720p resolution on the LCD. That is, officially, please see my post regarding 1080p prediction in 2013 from MTK.
More to come! Stay tuned.
