MTK MT6588 / MTK6589 vs Qualcomm’s MSM8225Q and MSM8625Q (part 4)

Now in part 4 we’ll finish it up with a few odds and ends:

  • The camera support for MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 will be 13mp, while Qualcomm MSM8225Q / MSM8625Q will be a paltry 8mp. Yes, MediaTek / MTK has spanked Qualcomm again.
  • Qualcomm 8225Q will support WCDMA, and Qualcomm 8625Q will support WCDMA as well as CDMA. MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 will support WCDMA and TDSCDMA.

So, now we’ve determined that MediaTek’s MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 easily beats out Qualcomm MSM8225Q / MSM8625Q by significantly besting it in several key areas – video encoding / decoding, camera and GPU.

    Comparison should be against the Snapdragon S4 Pro ? This comparison seems not impartial as it details are of different generations of processors.

      Hi Chi Am, It’s different lines, not different generations. Obviously Qualcomm’s high-end Pro line is going to be a significantly better performer than MTK MT6588 / MTK6588 which is aimed at budget consumers same as Qualcomm’s Play and Plus.
