Another difference between Elephone P9000 vs P9000 Lite is the Sony IMX258 sensor with the P9000 and the OmniVision OV13850 sensor in the Lite.

According to the official marketing material, the Elephone P9000 standard version will quick charge in 70min from dead to 100%.

Dubbed “smart key” by Elephone marketing, the P9000 and P9000 lite both have a programmable physical button which can be used to execute a function (eg, screenshot) or open an app of your choice.

It’s good to see Elephone has also included worldwide 3G/WCDMA/H/H+ support as many of their recent releases have been 900/2100 only. This is good news for the Americas.

If you’re looking for a very well-specced China mobile, consider the Elephone P9000. If you can let go of the extra goodies of the P9000, consider the P9000 lite.

    I assumed that you supposed MT6755 instead MTK6577? :-)

Anyway, the spec looks premium despite the absence of IR Blaster and Frontal-speakers.
Is it natively support for super-slowmo video recording on both version?
Ah yes, what about the battery?
    I’m interested :-)

Good catches MarucokXP; yes, MTK6755; battery 3000mAh.

No infrared unfortunately. About slowmo am not sure, but I would bet no. The IMX258 is probably capable of it, but I don’t give Elephone enough credit to implement it in software. Regards.

Does the initial release actually come with marshmallow? Or is it 5.1 upgradeable to marshmallow? I was under the impression that mediatek’s marshmallow code base was still in early beta.

Hello Alex, a great question. The way things are worded, it seems Elephone P9000 will come stock with Marshmallow Android 6.0. But, it would not surprise me to find Elephone has effectively lied here to gain hype and presales.

My guess is MediaTek can have 6.0 ready whenever they want. Generally speaking they only release new Android kernels for new SoC. In other words, if we follow history of MediaTek, we will not see *true* Marshmallow for MT6752/53/32/35/95. They might break tradition this time ’round, but if not, that’s fine with me; anything Android 4.2 and up is great.

That’s what I thought about marshmallow and Elephone. No one has a demo unit to confirm that it actually comes with it.

Some of the guys that have access to the Jiayu source have confirmed that there is marshmallow for the 6752 at least but it is it very very beta. That docent mean that the code for the p10 isn’t more advanced, but who knows. I wish Jiayu would get their act in gear and release a phone like this…. it is a company I have much more faith in.

MT6752 has been more or less dead for several months now. MT6753 took over not long after 52 was released. I haven’t seen any new phones with MT6752 for a long while. There may be some 6.0 52 kernels, but highly unlikely anything from Mediatek, eg likely a hacked together kernel/ROM.

The one thing that gives some credence to Elephone here is that it has the new 6755 SoC. If any SoC is going to officially get Marshmallow at this point, it will be 6755.

We will see in a couple of weeks.

I’ve watched some hands-on and initial reviews video of P9000 from sellers and Official Elephone on Youtube. Yes, all of those units already got Marsmallow out of the box.

What made me curious is Marsmallow officially released on September 2015 while P9000 started in development on June 2015 aka MT6755 is natively designed for Lollipop. What do you think Damian?

For the P9000 itself, since I had put it into my wishlist, my questions are:
    • Why Elephone put Touch-ID on the back? Don’t you think its better to put it in front?
    • Why make that single E-Touch button? Better keep the Android standard 3 capacitive button instead iPhones-like single Home button.
    • Why the slomo video only supporting @120fps? I thought all Helios chipset support up to 480fps. Does it a sign that Sony IMX258 sensor is incapable?
    • Since the port is USB Type-C, Will my OTG devices (micro USB) supported or do I need an adapter?

Others…I really love the specs and features. Just waiting for complete reviews and real world tests before made any purchasing.

This is in line with what I was saying earlier about Mediatek releasing new Android kernels for only their new SoC. I think it’s likely that most, if not all MT6755 mobiles will be Marshmallow.

For me, the back is a better spot than the front for touch ID. It’s a much more natural spot to lay the finger to unlock, and can be done single-handed without putting the phone in a precarious position.

For OTG, you will likely need to order a Type-C OTG. I have tried adapting standard OTG cable to Type-C with D6000 and Xiaomi Mi4c and it didn’t work.
