Just announced from MediaTek MTK, the Chinese SoC giant will be putting out two new SoC — Helio X23 and Helio X27.
Helio ‘X’ and ‘P’
The Helio ‘X’ line is generally featured in current generation China flagships, such as Doogee HomTom H10 and Xiaomi Redmi Pro, and are generally considered to be MTK’s premium line of SoC. This is in comparison to MTK’s ‘P’ line which is seen in mid-range China mobiles.
Both ‘P’ and ‘X’ line of Helio, from Helio P10 to Helio X35, are very good SoC which all push Android very smoothly.
Helio X23
Helio X23 is a minor upgrade to current gen Helio X20. With the same specs as X20 listed here:
- Helio X23 will carry the same 20nm process as Helio X20, with 10-core Cortex-A72 and Cortex-A53 CPU clusters.
- The Cortex-A72 cluster CPUs will be clocked at the same 2.3GHz as Helio X20.
- Mali-T880MP4 GPU will be clocked at 780MHz.
- RAM support is LPDDR3 dual-channel.
- Display support is 2K
- Radio support is up to Cat6
The difference when it comes to Helio X23 vs Helio X20 is that it’s designed to support dual-rear camera sensors shooting monochrome+color, this is the best implementation of dual-cameras and a feature seen in the Huawei P9, widely hailed as having excellent image quality (IQ).
Helio X27
While Helio X23 only carries minor improvements over Helio X20, Helio X27 is a nice jump:
- Cortex-A72 bumped to 2.6GHz
- Mali-T880MP4 GPU bumped to 875MHz
- ImagiQ dedicated image signal processor (ISP) improved to support real-time shallow depth of field (DOF) and faster focus.
This puts the Helio X27 just slightly faster in comparison to Helio X25 with Cortex-A72 cluster at 2.5GHz, and is a decent bump up in comparison to Helio X20 with Cortex-A72 cluster at 2.3GHz.
The GPU is a decent step up from X25, which sits at 850MHz, and is a big bump up from X20’s 780MHz.
