PC Share Settings For Android LAN Access!

While logging in remotely to your PC from your Android may give you access to that particular user’s desktop, you’ll likely find yourself restricted from accessing other drives and partitions on the PC. This tutorial will show you how to set your share settings, so you can access what you need to from your Android device.

1. Go to ‘My Computer’ from the icon on your desktop, or Start -> Computer
2. Right click on the drive / partitions / folder you want to share and select ‘Properties’
3. A small window will pop up. Click ‘Advanced Sharing’ in the middle of this window
4. A new window will pop up. Tick ‘Share this folder’
5. If you wish, you can give it a custom descriptive name for how it will show on the LAN.
6. Click ‘Permissions’. The default permissions should be ‘Read’ and ‘Everyone’. If you wish, you can change this or delete ‘Everyone’ all together and add specific user accounts and permissions. It will depend on your situation. For my purposes, I set it to ‘Everyone’ and ‘Full’ as no one else has access to my LAN.
7. To add specific users, click ‘Add’. In the window that pops up, you’ll see a box that says ‘Enter the object names to select’. Type in the user account name you wish to add and click ‘Check Names’. Assuming you entered it correctly it will come up with a proper path to that account. Click ‘Okay’ and edit the permissions you want for that particular account
8. You can now ‘Okay’ the previously opened windows one by one and then ‘Close’ ‘Properties’
9. Repeat 2-8 for each drive / folder / partition you want shared on the LAN
10. Make sure your firewall is set to allow your device on the LAN
