New Star Phablet Duo – The Star S1 And Star S7180!

STAR-S1-1Thanks to Samsung (and probably the Dell Streak), the popularity of a gigantic screened smartphone has gone through roof. Since the Samsung Galaxy Note and then followed by the Galaxy Note II’s great success in the world market, other manufacturers are begin to produce this type of big screen smartphone as well.

Big names such as HTC, Huawei, Sony, LG, ZTE, and Lenovo are all in on the competition and that trend has also been captured by some of the Chinese smartphone manufacturers at the low level market.

For those who wanted a gigantic screen but are unable to afford more than US $250, there are many brands from China manufacturers worthy of your attention.

Take these for example: Star S1 and Star S7180.
Both phablets have a form factor that resemble the very popular Samsung Galaxy Note II. The differences between the S1 and S7180 are screen size, front facing camera positions, the megapixel capabilities of the back and front camera and different capacity batteries.
The complete descriptions for both phablets are as follows:

Star S1
Android4.1, MTK 6577T Dual Core 1.2GHz, RAM : 1GB / ROM : 4GB eMMC MAX

5.7″ HD, 1280 x 720, 16M Colors, IPS-LCD

Camera : Back 12.0 mega pixel / Auto Focus / Flash LED with 2.0 mega pixel at front, Gravity Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Light Sensor, Wifi, GPS, Battery Capacity at 2500 mAh.

Star S7180
Android4.1, MTK 6577 T Dual Core 1.2GHz, RAM : 1GB / ROM : 4GB eMMC

5.3″ QHD, 960 x 540, 16M Colors, IPS-LCD

Camera : Back 5.0 mega pixel / Auto Focus / Flash LED with 0.3 mega pixel at front, Gravity Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Light Sensor, Wifi, GPS, Battery capacity at 2800 mAh

Star S1 and Star S7180 are already available on the market. With a price tag around US $230 for the S1 and US $190 for the S7180 it seems that both are worthy of considering. Although Star S1 and S7180 are direct rivals of the Zopo ZP950 and ZP900, the Star duo has already shown a slightly promising performance over the Zopos. All thanks to the new overclocked Mediatek‘s MT6577T. Both manage to score 6478 points on Antutu benchmarking. More than Zopo‘s ZP950 and ZP900 or any other handsets using the usual 1 GHz dual core MTK 6577.

Thanks Ari. I’ve mentioned a couple times, I think Star puts out some decent phones. My old a5000 took huge amounts of abuse and the LCD was bright and great from all angles. I’ll also mention there’s a Star S7100 which is the same as the S7180, but only 512MB RAM. Could be an option for those looking for a large-screened, super-bargain phone.
