MTK6592 Officially Unleashed!

mtk6592-2 Today was the big day for MT6592. The MediaTek general manager Xie Quingjiang and many executives met in Shenzhen. The big party also included members from ARM and Gameloft.

As already mentioned in previous posts, the MTK6592 uses 28nm HPM process. All 8-cores can run simultaneously and will switch the number of active cores based on load. The chipset will support LPDDR2@533MHz and LPDDR3@666MHz. This is very interesting to note, there may be a couple different versions of the MTK6592 available based on the information regarding supporting 2 different types of memory. So perhaps we’ll see a regular and a MTK6592 Turbo version similar to MTK6589.

The GPU, also already mentioned in a previous post will be the ARM Mali450-MP4 running at 700MHz.

MTK6592 will support:

  • up to 16MP camera
  • video recording at 1080P
  • playback of 4k H.264
  • playback of Google VP9
  • MiraVision
  • ClearMotion

It’s been touted that MTK6592 will use less juice under the same load of other processors. This means we should be able to achieve the same tasks at the same speed, but with less battery power. Whether this is hype or truth remains to be seen.
