THL W200S Review – Unboxing!

thl_w200sAlways good to receive a THL phone for review. This unit was no exception. We previewed the THL W200S a few days ago. Let’s see what the unboxing holds for us.

Accessories

The accessories were fairly standard except for the earphones which had a ribbon style cable as opposed to your standard skimpy round style. We liked that. It added a little extra element of class to the phone. With the standard round cable, there’s always this fear that they’re too flimsy and will easily break. Not so with the ribbon cable style.

A hard plastic case for the back was included. It’s of a matte texture. Strangely, it’s tinted blue. I like blue, but not sure I want my phone to be tinted blue. Regardless, it’s not a big deal. It may be something of an acquired taste, so we’ll give it a go and let you know what we think in the upcoming review.

Also included were a colorized quick start guide. This is one of the nicest manuals I’ve seen from a China phone. All pictures were colorized and of magazine style paper as opposed to your standard flat paper. It definitely added an element of class to the package.

Outside the Phone

The front of the phone presented nothing unique about it. It looked fine though, and the corners are quite square which is always nice.

The rear of the phone was a different story. The back plastic piece is matte yet presents a sheen to it. Possibly magnesium alloy. Regardless, it shunned fingerprints in an excellent way and really added an extra element of class. We don’t really like the ‘Technology Happy Life’  printed on the back. It’s downright corny and strange. Again, not a big deal, but would like to see it gone.

The sides have a sliver of silver plastic which look somewhat like brushed aluminum until taking a closer look and touching. They add an nice element of style to the phone and I like what THL did here with the W200S. It’s a small thing, but really sets the phone apart.

The buttons were firm and had a solid click to them.

Inside the Phone

The inside was fine as well. We really liked the battery. I know that may be a strange thing to say, but when you open the phone, it’s just this solid black matte battery which looks really cool. As a pleasant surprise, the battery ended up being 2000mA as opposed to 1800mA as we initially talked mentioned in our preview.

According to the sticker under the battery, the phone has two IMEI as opposed to a single IMEI shared by both SIMs. For 99% of countries, this doesn’t matter too much, but some countries with carriers who are strict about this kind of thing, it could be an issue having the same IMEI for two different SIMs on the same carrier. This won’t be an issue with the THL W200S since it has two IMEI. One for each SIM.

All in all, the THL W200S presents a fine appearance. We’ll be putting this phone through the paces and will be back with the first part of the review within the next day or so.
