THL T11 Review Full – 1900MHz 3G, NFC, 2750mA

thl-t11-IMG_20140404_153040

The THL T11 is an MT6592, 720p, 2GB RAM/16GB ROM mobile.

Some of the things we’ll cover in the THL T11 review – LCD, GPS, WiFi, general build, external speaker, mic, earphones, earpiece, battery, Antutu, NenaMark, camera and summary conclusion. If you want something specific checked out, please inform in the comments, or at the forum.

If you’ve been following Gizbeat for awhile, you’ve no doubt heard the whinings regarding China brands lacking 1900. The day has finally arrived. The THL T11 has 1900 WCDMA.

The THL T11 is an awesome looking, square, big battery phone with NFC, OTG and is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile networks, as well as 2100 for coverage in Asia, UK and pretty much anywhere else in the world.

Accessories

The earphones had a ribbon style cable as opposed to your standard skimpy round style. We liked that. It adds an extra slight element of class to the package. With standard thin round cable, there’s always the feeling the cord will easily break. Not so with the ribbon style.

Textured buttons

A hard plastic case for the back was included. It’s matte and resists finger prints. In an excellent decision the hard case is not opaque like the THL W200S hard case. This case is a very deep green. It’s so deep that you may do a double take and consider whether you’re seeing green or black.

Also included is a colorized quick start guide. THL includes one of the nicest manuals I’ve seen from a China phone. All pictures are colorized and of magazine style paper as opposed to your standard flat newspaper style. I’m not sure if people actual read these, but THL’s version definitely adds an element of class to the package.

Outside the Phone

What a phenomenal looking phone. You can tell thought went into every aspect. The buttons instead of being coated, are textured plastic in a centrifugal design. They offer a distinct feel to the fingertips. The THL T11 has a super square portrait and sides that angle into the back.

The back is matte and easily shuns finger prints.

Excellent matte back hates fingerprints.
We don’t really like the ‘Technology Happy Life’  printed on the back. It’s somewhat corny and strange. Not a big deal, but would like to see it gone.

The buttons click firmly when pressed.

Inside the Phone

The big news here is that the battery is 2750mA. Huge news, and we are expecting to get at least 6 hours onscreen. Possibly 7-8 with a battery this size in a 5.0″ LCD mobile.thl-t11-IMG_20140404_153014

Also a pleasant surprise was the confirmation of NFC.

The SIMs are one standard and one micro slot. There is a separate IMEI for each SIM.

Unboxing Summary

Huge props to THL for this phone. Not only in the looks and design department, which are exceptional, but the entire specification package which includes a 2750mA battery, OTG, NFC, 850/1900/2100 WCDMA. All from a well known China brand – THL who we know makes some of the best China phones out there.

Looking forward to getting this one tested out.

I’ve checked frequency support in engineering mode and 1900 is listed. We’ll have a screenshot of it in the upcoming written review.

For now, you can see it on the box in the unboxing on YouTube.

    Hi Damian
im really impressed by this phone.
my question is why i cant find any ROM for this on Internet . i find several ROM for Thl T100s with very similar hardware but i cant find any for Thl t11!
another thing is how you see the sound quality of earphones?

    1. Damian Parsons Avatar
      Damian Parsons

The reason is because it’s a brand new model. It literally only became available for shipping as of last Monday (31-MAR-14). I still have not tested sound quality of earphones. I will have it in part one of the review tomorrow. Stay tuned to this link. I will put all parts of the review in this same link.

In your benchtests of the battery life, wifi, netc: could you show at least one view from “Network Signal Info”. AFAIK, performance decreases as the electronic distance increases, between the phone’s radios (several) and the other radios the phone is relating with: networks, Bluetooth, Wifi, GPS, magnetic, NFC, etc.

Electronic distance depends also on barriers, EMI-nterference, relative aerial-polarities, etc.

I haven´t any specially function for test. I am just thinking about buying a phone, and my favorite is ZOPO ZP998 and the T11 THL even if the worse display. This model has a larger battery and smaller cost. Zopo has a big size of display. So I am already waiting for the final verdict to could better decision.Would you please be so kind and give me your tip between these two models? Thank Luboš

This phone is a big winner. If you’re in America, THL T11 is an easy decision. If not, it’s still a good choice if looking at price. You should get better battery life due to lower resolution as well. Some people have claimed battery life problems with zp998, but Paul in his review said his battery life was good. The THL T11 Antutu is 26k+. Just need to test THL T11 camera.

We received this phone just under a week ago. Is working really well with T-mobile incoming and out going calls an texts. Still early stages of use, but my son is liking it a lot. Have not figured out how to change ring tone or wall paper. Any advice on that Damian? :D

Excellent. I’ve been waiting to hear back from you as to whether it was satisfactory for him. Good to know it’s working on T-Mobile. The THL T11 is my daily use phone.

You can change ring tone from homescreen >> menu button >> settings >> audio profiles.

For wallpaper, on the homescreen tap and hold any empty space on the homescreen and a menu will pop-up allowing for wallpaper change.

    Hello,
If it’s not to late for you to test this out,I’d like to ask you to perform bluetooth test to see if it will drop the connection or have problems with a connection and sound reproduction with some kind of a headset or speakers if you have any lying around.
So basically just pair it with something and play a random audio file via bluetooth.
I think that 10 to 15 mins should be sufficient.

After that try to give it a go with blue-tooth and gps active at the same time to observe the same thing.

I’m asking you to try this as some people have reported these issues with some models of t100s , and since it is more or less the same smartphone minus few bits I figured that these issues might be still lingering.

Anyhow hope you can give this test a go.

    Cheers.

How would you say this phone compares to V3 in terms of GPS and camera? I have a THL T5s with a 8mp camera and it was really disappointing – also a very weak flash. Is this phone’s flash strong?

Also, would you say there is, as of now, no reason to buy the THL T100s, or is the 13mp camera a good enough reason (because I think at 5″ the higher resolution is just a waste pf battery; 1280×720 is more than enough for that size screen, if you ask me…)?

    1. Damian Parsons Avatar
      Damian Parsons

Looking at the iNew V3 vs THL T11 pics zoomed in shows a significant improvement. THL T11 are a big step up. The iNew V3 has tons of noise. But zoomed out it’s not as much of an issue.

Vs the T5S. I can’t say because I haven’t had the opportunity to see. If I were you, I’d do some 100% crops of 8mp pics and compare them to the THL T11 100% crops @ chinaphonearena.

The flash is very bright. Probably the brightest I’ve seen on a China phone, but this will depend on what you expect.

Re GPS. SNR about same as most recent China phones. It’s good. THL W200S is significantly stronger. I haven’t had a chance to test navigation on either one yet.

There’s no way I would consider a phone due to 13mp vs 8mp. It means nothing in terms of actual photo quality unless you’re printing very large prints or doing huge crops. I take all my normal day to day photos at 1mp.

AnTuTu benchmark app gives a detailed report of the hardware. Could you show it?

On my THL w200s, with the latest OTA ROM update, AnTuTu says I have 13 megapixel cameras, both front & back. Both cameras are autofocus,electronic-zoom,full macro, auto-exposure. I find it useful to photograph-examine facial skin in bright light: scars, skins markings, shaving-closeness, etc. Or examining the inside of my mouth or nostrils.

With electronic zoom, more megapixels can often be better. The front camera is not just a toy selfie gimmick. With health education, it becomes a serious tool.

Gmail randomly locks up on the T11 when trying to attach photos from apps. It’s possibly the SD I’m using as I’ve had the issue with several of the previous models I’ve tested. I will try to get around to troubleshooting the exact cause. Other than that and a couple of Line app FC while multiple messages were received, the THL T11 stock ROM has been flawless.

    Hi Damien
Just got the Doogee DG2014 and apart from it’s mediocre (and even bad) battery life,it’s one of the best midrange phones I’ve ever used and I say that after owning the iNew V3, ThL w100s, Jiayu G4 and numerous other China Phones. With Doogee’s recent sponsorship deal with spanish soccer team Villareal and the impressive amount of upcoming phones announced on their website (I’ve counted 4 new models in only the last 2 weeks) I get the feeling that they’re serious about really going places with their brand. Any chance of some Doogee reviews in the near future?

    1. Damian Parsons Avatar
      Damian Parsons

I think it’s a great point you make about Doogee sponsoring Villarreal. It shows they are quite serious about entering the big time. Really quite amazing given that they’re a very new start up.

They still have a ways to go. They show 4.2.9 Android for DG2014, and their English blog is badly translated.

It seems truly amazing they’d go to the lengths and cost of sponsoring Villarreal yet not even get proper English and specs on their official site, but there it is.

I’ll try to get a couple of Doogee reviews up in the near future.

      1. isragooner Avatar
        isragooner

I agree about their English but, unfortunately, that’s the case with most China brands. 2 of their newer phones are advertised with 4.4 Kitkat which bides well with what we’ve been hearing about Mediatek devices. Hope that’s true because I’ve got my eye on the DG550 as my next phone, I just hope it only looka like the iNew V3 but has the performance of the DG2014, especially in the GPS department which is the best I’ve seen to date on a Mediatek device.
BTW, any idea what this 4.2.9 is? They claim it on their website (as you said) and that’s what Antutu claims too (as well as the about tab in the settings) but I’ve never seen it anywhere else

        1. Damian Parsons Avatar
          Damian Parsons

I think you’ve missed my point. What’s amazing is not the bad translations… It’s the combination of them spending the effort and dough to sponsor Villarreal yet forgo the comparatively miniscule effort and cost of putting proper English on their blog. This is something to do with the Asian mentality.

Re 4.2.9, Antutu is just reporting what Doogee put in the build.prop. There is no real Android 4.2.9. There was a Play Store 4.2.9, maybe some China brands just got confused.

Don’t get me wrong, I admire Doogee for many of the steps they’ve taken.

Hi. Could you let me know how the bass response and volume is while listening to music via some quality earphones? That would be great!

    1. Damian Parsons Avatar
      Damian Parsons

Hi Andy, I think it’s safe to say that you shouldn’t expect high-end bass out of the THL T11 (and most China phones). There is someone at the forum currently complaining about lack of bass in the THL W200S, and when I listen to the THL W200S compared to the THL T11 they put out nearly identical sound.

      1. Andy Avatar
        Andy

Thanks Damian! I was actually thinking of buying this phone. I have the ZP980+ and at high volume and highest level of bass boost it sounds like tearing. On the contrast my wife’s Feiteng N9300+ sounds terrific with bass at highest level. No tearing and crackling. It sounds better than my friend’s original Samsung GS3. We were all surprised. Flash of the N9300+ is super bright, never came across a brighter led in a China phone. Downside is the camera. Anyway thanks again!

        1. Damian Parsons Avatar
          Damian Parsons

Just from my brief listening, I’d say the THL T11 has average sound from jack. External speaker is above average. Interesting regarding the Feiteng. Sounds like they possibly used a dedicated sound processor, or the SoC has higher quality sound onboard. What SoC is it using?

          1. space Avatar
            space

The N9300+ uses an MTK6577 chipset – isn’t that chipset quite old? No clue what it does for sound, though.

          2. Damian Parsons Avatar
            Damian Parsons

Yes. It’s old but modern sound processing tech is even older. It’s quite possible the MT6577 uses a higher quality integrated sound processor, or perhaps the Feiteng has a dedicated sound processor. It’s also possible that Feiteng simple relegated more ‘juice’ to the 3.5 jack.

          3. Andy Avatar
            Andy

Yes its really interesting that a MT6577 phone generates so much bass and volume. Volume is so high that it hurts the ears at just about 40%. Tried on maximum volume few times for just a few moments and still no tearing sound of the bass.

          4. Andy Avatar
            Andy

I read some reviews of No:1 N3 and the Star HD5000 where they have been mentioned as good audio players generating some good bass. I am thinking of buying the HD5000 as its quite cheap at about 140$.

          5. Damian Parsons Avatar
            Damian Parsons

I haven’t heard anything bad about the HD5000. The price is right. Interested to hear your thoughts on that phone if you end up ordering it.

            Andy

As per review HD5000 has a lower battery life. I will let you know my experience with it when I buy it. Just waiting to get rid of the ZP980+. A pity cause its a good phone other than as a music player.

      Damian Parsons

Hello Reuf, I haven’t compared w100 photos with THL T11. I do think T11 puts out some very nice pictures. You can take a look at the picture forum for more and bigger pics and 100% crops.

One issue I’ve had with the T11 is focusing in very low light situations. For example late dusk. Normal indoor focusing is fine though.

I would recommend an extra battery. I’m a battery swapper and enjoy the freedom of not having to tie the phone to the charger and always having a fresh battery ready to go. I’ve been getting about 5.5-7.5 hours on screen per full charge and phone on period of 25-40 hours.

As far as shop, I recommend one of our sponsors from here or chinaphonearena sponsors. They accept PayPal. I do recommend DHL if you can afford it.

I recall reading ( probably one of your posts) that the the 16gb storage was partitioned in to many sets ( 6?) is this correct and if so is this an inconvenience in operation.

Also are you able to move apps to other memory? are both the SIMs 3G ?

I am toying between THL W200S and T11 and concerned that the 1 GB of W200S may be inadequate?
    Appreciate your feedback

    1. Damian Parsons Avatar

It’s only 2 partitions — The phone storage and internal storage. You can move apps from SD to internal storage and vice versa. In terms of system responsiveness and operation you will notice no difference between 1GB and 2GB. The only difference comes in with things falling out of memory while you’re using a different foreground app. I made a post on this a while back

I’m looking to get a good device cheap and with shipping I can get the t11 or the g4s for roughly the same net price. What do you recommend? It seems like an extra battery vs extra screen trade off at the moment. I’m concerned about reports of weak wifi in both :p.
This would be my first china device, I hope these phones are good quality
I was holding out for the lenovo golden warrior for the sake of the brand quality but the reported 2000 mah battery seems ridiculous.

This is a hard choice. They are both good China phones. Don’t expect miracles though. Whether you’re satisfied or not, that is up to what you expect. For me the THL T11 is more than enough. I wouldn’t recommend the phone if I didn’t think it was a good buy. Re WiFi, As mentioned in the review, this THL T11 can use internet from 180ft away from my little home router. Jiayu generally makes very good phones as well, but I haven’t had a chance to use the G4S.

Hello Tone, this is the full review. There is some info on chinaphonearena as well.

The headphone sound is average. Don’t expect to be blown away. The external speaker and mic and earpiece are all very good.

I have loved this phone, however I’ve had issues with the kernel occasionally keeping the phone awake. Rebooting the phone fixes it, but then it comes back later on. I just haven’t had time to troubleshoot it.

I have another phone on the way for review, so my THL T11 is for sale – 6300 baht if you’re interested. It’s in nearly perfect condition.

        Hi Damian,

A friend here would like to buy your T11 if it’s still available. If you can EMS it to Korat, he can transfer payment today or tomorrow first.

        Cheers

There is a big thread regarding this at chinaphonearena with pictures and all. http://www.chinaphonearena.com/forum/Thread-V3-falling-apart-or-how-to-change-color-of-home-button

I think you made a good choice with THL T11. It’s an excellent phone build wise and works great as a weapon if needed ;) Thing still looks nearly brand new after a couple months of use. Hope it lives up to your expectations.

    Hello Damian,

how is phone behaving after some time now-did you have any problems with lagging, slow response in apps, etc…

would you recommend T11 or Coolpad F1?

    thank you very much!

      Hello Ved,

The phone is very good. Super solid build. The frame is indeed metal. There is no lagging or slow response other than what you would expect normally from Android. As to whether Coolpad F1 or THL T11, I could not recommend because I have not had experience with the Coolpad. The Coolpad is at a better price, but lacks NFC and is 8GB instead of 16GB. If neither of those are important to you, I would give the Coolpad a shot and save the dough. But as I said, I have not actually used the Coolpad before, so I can not comment on quality.

Thank you Damian for the fast response!

Would you recommend this phone to the person who don’t want to hassle with the ROMs, drivers installing, DIY stuff etc-so, i would use it just as it arrived.

I normally stick with stock ROMs. Both my W200S and THL T11 are still on stock ROM. There are a couple thing to mention though, that is the notification light does not blink for notifications, Xposed Framework does not work on the stock ROM, and the newer Facebook app crashes, so must stick with an older version (6.0). These are all non-issues for me. The former two issues can be fixed with a new ROM install.

Hi Damian. Thanks for the review.
Internal memory size is important to me.
Can the T11 save apps to the microSD card?

Saw it in a comment above that you can move apps from internal memory to SD. There are app managers that enable you to do this even without rooting.

Thanks for pointing that out. It’s just that some phones have a weird way of partitioning the internal memory and they sometimes call the 2nd partition as “SD card.” I hope Damian actually meant the external SD card when he said that.
        cheers

Could you test this mobile with app “Star Chart”. Are there all sensor require for the app, and, Is it work collect?

‘Star Chart’ seems to run fine. Didn’t go ‘in depth’ but didn’t find any problems.

Make sure to remove the small protective film from the back camera. This will improve the picture by a lot.
