The Doogee DG550 is easily one of the top phones I’ve had the pleasure to review this year. There was a bit of a blemish on the release though, as the initial marketing and the box the Doogee DG550 came in had “4.4.2” touted, yet only came with Jelly Bean.
Several users were severely upset and though I do understand their dismay, I didn’t share it. For me it was a non-issue and I never looked negatively upon Doogee for the misstep. I do believe their intentions were to have KitKat ready for the DG550 release, but just could not make it ready in time, possibly due to issues out of their control (eg, waiting for MediaTek to release full source code and/or base MTK KitKat builds).
Water under the bridge, the Doogee engineers have announced KitKat for DG550. To be released in “two days” with an OTA update to follow shortly.
As an aside, my favorite thing about KitKat is the excellent new bokeh features of the Google Camera for KitKat.
Current and future Doogee DG550 owners stay tuned because we will be putting the announcement out as soon as KitKat hits.
