Finally some solid MTK6592 news. Rumors about MTK6592 have abounded and now we’ve got some word directly from MTK Managing Director, Mr. Zhu Shangzu. After rumors circulating had insiders frustrated, Mr. Shangzu finally engaged us with some dialogue. We recently published an article regarding MTK6592. It’s still a rumor at this point, but the rumor just got stronger. There is an image of a news story on MTKs website referring to the MTK6592 and what GPU it may have. A popular cult hit, the Star S5 has been re-released as the Star S5+ and now includes the updated MTK6589T CPU. What’s great is that they’ve retained the IPS 720p as opposed to going up to 1080p, which means this will make an excellent choice for gamers who play the higher end 3D games. (more…)
It seems like only yesterday when the first MTK6589 phone came out. It heralded a new era of China smartphones where every new MTK China phone available came with at least 1GB RAM and 4GB storage, and most with 720p LCDs. While 512MB may satisfy the casual/average user, it wasn’t quite enough for power users and those who multi-task. Now there are more MTK6589 phones released than MTK6577. Gizbeat generally doesn’t take the time to post little tips and tricks and maybe some of you already take advantage of this, but this is one of the things I have found very useful.
While many of us know that a two-finger pull-down on the notification bar will access our toggles, this is not conducive to single-hand operation. What are you doing with your other hand? Well, I don’t want to guess… But let’s just say there are times when we need the toggles and both hands aren’t readily available. It’s also of course possible to pull down the notification and tap the icon to bring up toggles, but this is an extra step we can eliminate. (more…)
Gizbeat was a bit skeptical we’d see MTK6589T smart phones released before the end of the month, but already we’ve got at least two phones shipping with the MTK6589T. We recently posted a preview of the MTK6589T and some of the differences between it and the standard MTK6589.
MTK6589T is an exciting new chipset with a significant boost in GPU and CPU power. Though the majority of phones initially coming out with MTK6589T will be 1080p, within the next couple months we should see some 720p options as well which will be an excellent choice for demanding 3D games. (more…)
Often I see it posted in blogs and forums something to the effect of ‘engineering mode says it has 850MHz, so it must be true’. Though no matter how much we wish it, it’s simply not. MTK6589 and it’s aging brothers MTK6577/MTK6575 etc…, all have chipset support for many GSM/WCDMA frequencies. (more…)

We recently posted a tutorial on how to root MTK6589. We’ve now come across a new root method that is compatible with a whopping 122 MTK phones and should work with many others, as many MTK phones use ported and similar ROMs. This Graphical Auto-Root is also compatible with MTK6575, MTK6577 and most likely older versions of MTK chipset as well.
