A month or so back, I discussed LTE coming at some point in 2014 to MediaTek SoC. It turns out that prototype 4G / LTE chip testing has already begun with some of the major China manufacturers. The current buzz is that the 4G / LTE MTK chips may be released as early as Q1 2014. (more…)

China Phones vs Popular Name Brand Phones – 1,2,3: Fight! (Part 2)
Recently I saw a post at chinaphonearena.com asking how the iNew i6000 fared when put up against late model HTCs, Samsungs and LGs. I thought it was a good opportunity to make a general, basic post comparing China phones to popular name brand phones and what one should expect when purchasing a China phone. More Breaking MTK6592 8-core/octa-core News!
I realize my posts have been far and few between. What was happening was some unnamed websites were directly copying and pasting our full posts. After successfully lodging a complaint with Google and getting several sites AdSense shut down, we will continue on with the posts. Thanks to our loyal readers for continuing to support us. On with the show.
After having some confirmation of MTK6592 a couple weeks back, we now have even more breaking news on this exciting new 8-core chip. Mediatek is calling their 8-core MTK6592 the first ‘true synchronized octacore chip’. They can claim this because Samsung’s Exynos 8-core SoC is actually 2 quad-core CPUs. One a high-powered ARM a15 set for when running CPU intensive operations, and the other a less power-hungry ARM a7 set reserved for when you’re doing less CPU intensive things. This is called a big.LITTLE configuration. (more…)

MediaTek MTK6592 8-Core (Octa-Core) Update!
We recently published an article regarding MTK6592. It’s still a rumor at this point, but the rumor just got stronger. There is an image of a news story on MTKs website referring to the MTK6592 and what GPU it may have. Though this does strengthen the rumors regarding MTK6592, there’s still no confirmation from MediaTek and attempts to locate the story on the MediaTek website have proved fruitless. (more…)

30,000 On Antutu? Octa-Core (8-Core) MTK6592 Right Around The Corner!
It seems like only yesterday when the first MTK6589 phone came out. It heralded a new era of China smartphones where every new MTK China phone available came with at least 1GB RAM and 4GB storage, and most with 720p LCDs. While 512MB may satisfy the casual/average user, it wasn’t quite enough for power users and those who multi-task. Now there are more MTK6589 phones released than MTK6577. It seems like every day brings us a new quad-core model. (more…)

Does JiaYu Support 850/1900MHz? (AKA Difference Between Engineering Mode and Reality)
Often I see it posted in blogs and forums something to the effect of ‘engineering mode says it has 850MHz, so it must be true’. Though no matter how much we wish it, it’s simply not. MTK6589 and it’s aging brothers MTK6577/MTK6575 etc…, all have chipset support for many GSM/WCDMA frequencies. (more…)
