A couple of months back, Doogee released the fantastically priced Doogee X5 and X5 Pro. These two phones were differentiated by MT6580/1GB/8GB specs with the X5, and MT6735/2GB/16GB with the X5 Pro. (more…)

Ulefone has been around for a couple of years now. Up until recently they were mostly producing Samsung clones, but eventually switched over to their own design with the Ulefone Be Touch. 2GB budget Ulefone Be Pro preview
Ulefone has been around long enough now to be considered one of the veteran China brands. They broke ground with the OnePlus One look alike– Ulefone Be Pro, and the iPhone 6 lookalike– Ulefone Be Touch. I liked both of these phones, and at the time they were a good buy.
Deciding to reboot the Ulefone Be Pro, we now have the Ulefone Be Pro 2.

- 2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
- 3G: WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100MHz
- 4G:FDD-LTE 800/1800/2100/2600MHz
- Battery: 2600mAh
For a good portion of time, quite a few models were including 850/900/1900/2100 WCDMA. Over the last couple of months though, they have dropped off in favor of mostly 900/1900 from Doogee, Elephone and Oukitel.
This is sad to see, but brands such as Xiaomi, Innos, Mlais, Lenovo and Ulefone are still carrying the torch releasing budget priced phones with N/C/S American WCDMA frequencies.
The SoC on the Ulefone Be Pro 2 is MT6735, which I’ve found to be very capable. It actually carries the same core type, Cortex-A53, as the super-powered Helio X10, albeit at a lower clock speed.Great also to see a compass included. This should be a default sensor for any phone in the $125+ range, but seems to be missing from some phones costing even far more. While I rarely to never have a use for compasses, they can come in handy when walking in unfamiliar cities.

If you’re looking for a budget mobile and have a carrier that supports the above mentioned frequencies, consider the Ulefone Be Pro 2. -

Umi Hammer S review specifications 2GB 3200mAh remote control mobile
Umi has long been synonymous with quality in the China phone world. They have been around about as long as Jiayu and THL, which makes them an elder brand.
The Umi Hammer was one of their more popular models and they’ve now given the phone a reboot in the form of Umi Hammer S.

The Umi Hammer S carries the MT6735 SoC, this is the recently typical SoC manufacturers have been using to keep costs down for consumers and I’ve found it to be a very capable SoC, pushing Android without any issues.
We also see the largish battery coming in at 3200mAh. With the 720P display, this should provide very good battery life. Good enough to get nearly all users through the day. Moderate and light users should see a couple of days with a battery this size.
Umi is using the Type-C USB port which allows for faster data transfer with hardware capable computers. Type-C is backwards compatible with USB 1, 2 and 3, so there’s no need for worrying about being able to transfer and connect to older PCs.
Stylewise, the Umi Hammer S is sporting CNC process metal sides and a nice square design. The front glass is 2.5D arc style, which always adds a nice element of class to a mobile.
Also worthy of mention is the touch ID feature, which allows you to unlock your phone with a tap on the back. This is really where I prefer it on a mobile, as it’s much more comfortable and natural to scan your fingertip on the back as opposed to the center front.
A new feature recently come to several China mobiles is the universal infrared remote. This will allow you to control all of your compatible remote control gadgets with your Umi Hammer S.

I’ve recently reviewed a couple of Umi phones and have found them to be quality units, both in terms of use and physical build. If you’re looking for a 2GB RAM budget mobile with slick looks and are in an area with the aforementioned frequency support, consider the Umi Hammer S.
