More than a few China phone MTK6577, MTK6589, MTK65xx users have turned up with either NVRAM Err = 0x10, or NVRAM Err = 0x04. Other users may also need to change their MAC address because more than one device has the same MAC address and it’s creating a conflict on the wifi network. (more…)

It seems like only yesterday when the first MTK6589 phone came out. It heralded a new era of China smartphones where every new MTK China phone available came with at least 1GB RAM and 4GB storage, and most with 720p LCDs. While 512MB may satisfy the casual/average user, it wasn’t quite enough for power users and those who multi-task. Now there are more MTK6589 phones released than MTK6577. First MTK6589T Phones Shipping – UMi X2 And Tianje X920+ Butterfly!
Gizbeat was a bit skeptical we’d see MTK6589T smart phones released before the end of the month, but already we’ve got at least two phones shipping with the MTK6589T. We recently posted a preview of the MTK6589T and some of the differences between it and the standard MTK6589.
MTK6589T is an exciting new chipset with a significant boost in GPU and CPU power. Though the majority of phones initially coming out with MTK6589T will be 1080p, within the next couple months we should see some 720p options as well which will be an excellent choice for demanding 3D games. (more…)

We recently posted a tutorial on how to root MTK6589. We’ve now come across a new root method that is compatible with a whopping 122 MTK phones and should work with many others, as many MTK phones use ported and similar ROMs. This Graphical Auto-Root is also compatible with MTK6575, MTK6577 and most likely older versions of MTK chipset as well.
