Facebook to make 360 degree content available

Now that Google and YouTube are well into the the 360 craze, Facebook will be implementing 360 image compatibility within the next couple of weeks.

Users will be able to use a mouse to view 360 images, touch and drag with touch devices, or use VR headsets to view the 360 content.

    VR here to stay

360 content has been hitting major strides in 2016. The release of the $15 Google Cardboard 2 and a profusion of cheap China brand headsets such as VR Box, ShineCon and the slightly pricier, but community recommended BoboVR Z4 (4th gen BoboVR) with built-in headphones has helped the industry along immensely.
    Bobo-VR-Z4-1

Google has also released Google Cardboard app, which along with providing an easy method to take 360 photos, also provides a community portal to sharing and viewing 360 photos others have taken.

    Premium VR equipment from $100-1000

There is almost more expensive gear available, Facebook owned Oculus Rift, HTC/Valve Vive, Playstation VR, and Gear VR by Samsung. All of these provide a more upscale VR experience than the aforementioned products, but the cost of these range from about $100 for the Samsung VR, up into $1000+ for the Oculus Rift and Vive.

Best to start slow before diving in

Our suggestion, is to get your feet wet with the very inexpensive Google Cardboard 2, or if a bit more serious, the BoboVR Z4, before going full plunge with the more expensive devices.

In addition to 3D images, there are already a plethora of ways to use a VR device, including games, movies and virtual location tours.

    P10 vs P20

There is a big jump from Helio P10 vs Helio P20 with the P20 allowing decoding and encoding up to 4kx2k, as well as support for dual-displays.

P10 vs P20 we see the GPU is a nice bump up from Mali-T860 MP2 to Mali-T880 MP2.

    P10/20 vs P30

Comparing Helio P10 and P20 vs Helio P30 rumored specs, we see the P30 carries a big.LITTLE configuration with 4-core Cortex-A72. We also see the P30 will have ARM’s new Mimir GPU. Mimir is the codename for ARM’s latest GPU technology.

Note there is also a Helio P30T. Helio P30 vs P30T gives us 780MHz vs 850MHz respectively for the GPU and 2.0GHz vs 2.2GHz respectively for the Cortex-A72 cores.

In the past, MediaTek wouldn’t release new Android kernels until a new SoC was released, leaving many users who wanted the latest and greatest to flop and flounder through half-baked, bug-riddled ROMs.

MTK seems to have seen the error of their ways and have now made official kernels available to manufacturers.

Here we have the list of already released or soon to be released MediaTek mobiles with Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

    Sony Xperia X

We see that the X is the higher specced model of the two. It carries a bigger battery, 1080P FHD display and Snapdragon 650 SoC.

The Xperia X also has a superior camera at 23MP and with a 2/3″ sensor. This size sensor is the same size we normally see in standalone consumer compacts and super zooms.

    sony-xperia-x-xa-5

The front camera on the Sony Xperia X is surprisingly high-specced as well– 13MP Exymor RS. This is likely Sony IMX214, but may be Sony IMX258. In either case, it’s an incredible leap for front cameras and means that in good light you will be able to take respectable, sharp images.

    Sony Xperia XA / F3216

The lower specced model, Xperia XA, will bring along with it the MTK6755 Helio P10. This SoC is no slouch and it’s excellent to see Sony giving MTK a bit of clout by using it in the upcoming Sony Xperia XA.

The MT6750 SoC is coming our way.

Many of us know of Helio P10 aka MTK6755. A few phones which carry MT6755 are Elephone P9000, Ulefone Future, and the Huawei P9.

Pared down versions of the MTK6755 — the MTK6750 and MTK6755T will be coming our way within the next couple of months.

They will feature a similar setup as the MTK6755, including an 8-core 4×4 big.LITTLE configuration with Cortex-A53 CPUs.

The difference is that the higher-clocked CPUs will only be set to a maximum of 1.5GHz as opposed to 2.0GHz with the MT6755 Helio P10. The typical setup of MT6750 will be [email protected] and [email protected].

These new SoC will support up to 4GB RAM. The GPU will be the same GPU — Mali-T760MP2, but clocked at 350MHz instead of 700MHz as with MT6755.
