MT6582 iOcean X7 HD Review!

iocean-x7-6Just released for sale is the iOcean X7 HD. Like it’s brother, the iOcean X7S Elite, it retains the same nice looking form as last year’s X7. However the X7 HD contains the budget MTK6582 SoC as opposed to the MTK6592 SoC in the X7S Elite.

Also stepped down is the RAM, from 2GB in the X7S Elite to 1GB in the X7 HD. Storage is stepped down from 16GB to 4GB. Camera from 13MP to 8MP. LCD from 1080p to 720p. Though in regards to the latter, this is no loss because 720p enough for a 5.0″ LCD.

Same as the MT6592 iOcean X7S Elite, the MT6582 iOcean X7 HD will have 900/2100 WCDMA. I won’t repeat myself on our feelings regarding this switch, you can read about it in the X7S Elite post.

The price is $159. If it weren’t for the lack of 850MHz, we’d call this phone with OTG, Gyroscope and 3000mA battery option a great buy, and it still may be for those not considering a trip to the Americas anytime soon.

Gizbeat really likes the MT6582 CPU for these $100-200 phones it’s an excellent bargain, and provides plenty of power CPU and GPU wise for the average-moderate user.

Sounds more suitable for me than my X7a, with 1080 screen, tiny battery on a fast CPU, which short running times.

Love my 52gb memory, before the micro-SD storage, so 16gb might justify the lower price. The camera specs hint that the newer phone might have better low light performance; the major weakness of phone cameras.

IMHO, I might trade up to the newer version of my X7a.

I buy phones for shops here in the UK. I buy only phones which support 900mhz and 2100mhz 3G bands as the 2100mhz band inherently gives relatively poor coverage.

I personally wouldn’t chose a handset here in the UK for use on Vodafone or O2 which doesn’t support low frequency 3G.

Iocean’s 3g band choice probably freezes them out of the N.American market, but definitely makes then the choice in Europe.
