MediaTek / MTK To Get in Bed With HTC, Asus and Acer!
As predicted in several posts, some more name brands are hopping on the MediaTek / MTK express and coming for the ride.
Three major companies are following Lenovo’s suit – HTC, Asus and Acer.
As I’ve shown in recent posts, MediaTek / MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 easily puts a wasting on Qualcomm Snapdragon “Play” Series, and other than GPU, compares fine with the Qualcomm mid-line, but when it gets to the high-end of Qualcomm’s CPUs, MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 can’t compete.
So, MediaTek will be investing hugely in developing CPUs for the higher-end market. HTC, Asus and Acer will also be investing in joint research and project development. This team-up comes of no surprise, as they all 4 are Taiwan based companies.
Also in the works is MediaTek, HTC, Acer and Asus developing a 4-brand factory. They are currently in talks regarding development specifications, schedule and future products.
MediaTek themselves have put forward a proposal to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, to put together a team of hundreds of people, and invest upwards of 2 billion yuan in the project.
Normally a project of this magnitude takes several years to get to production model status. However, due to this huge powerhouse of a team and the large amount of money being invested, industry analysts have estimated MediaTek will have project samples ready by the end of 2013.
