Mega screen 6″ Meizu M3 Max review specifications

While there was a big pause with 6″ mobiles in 2015, they’re now coming from a slew of manufacturers.

Meizu is joining the parade with the not-so-original “Max” model name. But, what’s in name? Quite a lot in some areas of life, but not much when considering China brand mobiles.

Note this is a Meizu M3 Max review of specifications, not a review of the model on hand.

We’ve been impressed with Meizu. They normally put out very solid mobiles, and if you’re considering a mid-budget big-screened display mobile, the Meizu Max should be on your shortlist.

The camera is the very good Sony IMX258. We’ve seen several players going for this sensor recently, including Elephone P9000 and Xiaomi Pro.

How much is Meizu M3 Max

The Meizu M3 Max will retail for 1699Y in China ($254). We should see it available for around $275-350 from China shops shipping internationally.

Why couldn’t they put the helio x20/25 in this? The metal is a great phone and this would’ve been a great upgrade. Gotta find something to replace the rubbish letv max that I’m planning on sending back asap. Still no good upper midrange 6″+ devices out there.

Hello Robert, thanks for your comment. This is the way I see it….

While it’s nice to have the top SoCs, there is very little difference in real world performance. I mean to say, if we handed a user a Helio P10 powered phone and the same phone with Helio X20 MT6797 / Helio X25 MT6797T, it’s very unlikely they’d be able to tell the difference. We’re talking fractions of a second if anything difference.

Similar to the megapixel war with cameras. If I showed users a 13mp image compared to a 21mp image on a 4k display, once again people would never know the difference.

Where the difference might be noticed with Helio X20 MTK6797 vs Helio P10 MTK6755 would be, for example, benchmarks such as Antutu, and video processing (splicing and re-rendering video etc…). App installs might go a bit quicker as well, and gamers who need to play games at highest settings.

If the things mentioned above are very important to a user, then okay, the Helio X20/X25 might be important, but to the huge majority of users, these things aren’t imperative.

        Hi Damian

Whilst I partially agree with what your saying, the market is saturated with devices that are almost identical in every price category. Why produce a phone that won’t stand out from any of the others? Secondly, what about the portion of the market that is craving a good, solid 6″ phone? You only have to go on various forums to see there is demand, and the fact that most manufacturers have released a large phablet over the last few months shows that they know it too.

Lastly, my wife has a Galaxy tab 2 and even on what appears to be a relatively low taxing game like ‘Clash of clans’ can take 15-20 seconds to load up, whereas on my Meizu metal with the helio x10 it only takes around 5-6 seconds and the X10 is hardly a powerhouse. I don’t have an issue with the cpu, but MT’s GPU’s are known to be very weak so putting in one of their midrange chips in a phone makes the weakest part even weaker. We all know that the x20/25 is poor in the GPU department but it would still be a massive upgrad over the P10 and personally at the price points these are selling the SD625/650/652 phones are available with massively improved graphics performance.

It’s interesting that last year when MT released the MT6752 it was a great performing chip that had little competition in it’s price segment, this year it’s replacement is arguably weaker and the competition has vastly improved making MT’s dcision to release it very odd.

I’m not a heavy gamer by any stretch of the imagination but as you readily admit most people won’t tell the difference in cpu intensive tasks, but when the GPU is involved its a different matter…
