The GizBeat Top 4 Shortlist of Phones You Can Buy TODAY For $185-225!

3. Amoi Big V N821 — Sidestepping the competition and taking a big step forward, the Amoi Big V has made a legit Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROM available. Relatively high specs with 1GB, IPS 960*540 and 3MP front camera. Though it lacks the LCD protection of the UMi, it sports a slightly larger battery at 2050mA and a slightly cheaper retail price of $200.

4. Newman N1 / Freelander i10 — Another good choice is the Newman N1 / Freelander i10. Also with 1GB and IPS. Perhaps it’s a matter of taste, but I’m not a fan of the looks of the Newman / Freelander. The fact that it has 1GB and IPS and is available keeps it on the list. This phone is listed at many Aliexpress sellers as having HDMI. However, upon researching further, it appears this is a mistake on their part. The Newman N1 / Freelander i10 can be had for $185.

With MTK MT6589 / MTK6589 and MTK MT6599 / MTK6599 right around the corner, you may want to spend a bit less dough on a smartphone than what’s listed here. Coming up next — The Definitive GizBeat Shortlist of China Smartphones in the $150-175 range.

Hello Ram, unfortunately, we are somewhat at their mercy. These popular phones with the great specs are still in very high demand in China as well. It will be some time before we see them come down substantially. Even the cheaper, readily available MTK6577 Android phones are marked up pretty good. I guess the short answer is “no”. They know we’re still getting a relative bargain compared to paying top dollar in the West and they fully capitalize on it.
