Xiaomi Mi7 will be the first phone with Snapdragon 845, which can record 480fps HDR at 720P
Incredibly, it won’t be Samsung, or Sony, or HTC with the latest Qualcomm flagship SoC, but Xiaomi Mi7. This is further evidence that Xiaomi is on the way to true global status. Even a year back I don’t think anyone could have guessed Xiaomi would have the first phone out in Google’s Android One program, or the first phone out with the latest Qualcomm flagship SoC.
The new Snapdragon 845 SoC will be highly geared towards photography. With smartphones, regardless of how good the hardware is, software is the most crucial factor regarding image quality. Especially since many users are viewing images socially these days as opposed to making large prints or pixel peeping.
Images with Snap 845 can be captured with 10-bit color, as opposed to 8-bit with Snapdragon 835. This gives images a wider range of tones and hues. In addition, images can be captured at 60fps with 16MP resolution. This is big news for image stacking uses, such as with HDR, and especially for low-light HHT where noise is removed through median-averaging.
On the video end of things, Snapdragon 845 will be capable of recording 480fps at 720P in HDR and 4K at 60FPS.
