Meizu reveals flagship 16:9 Meizu 15 Plus with optical image stabilization
My recent preview of the Meizu 15 Plus was correct on most things, but what nobody expected was that Meizu would buck the 18:9 display trend and go with 16:9.
This is a bit shocking, seeing how the rest of the world is moving over to 18:9. As well, instead of 5.5″ typical of 16:9, Meizu went with 5.95″. According to the marketing images, Meizu 15 Plus has no side bezels, which should help it stay narrow. The display is AMOLED, QHD resolution.
The cameras on the 15 Plus both carry optical image stabilization (OIS). This is great news and puts it one step above the OnePlus 5T, at least in terms of stabilization.
The main sensor is a 12MP 1/2.3″, which is the same size as entry-level consumer standalone compact cameras. The secondary camera is fixed at 2x zoom which means the 15 Plus has a true optical 2x zoom. By combining the two cameras, Meizu claims that zoom of up to 3x will be the same lossless quality as 3x optical.
The Meizu 15 Plus SoC is Exynos 8895 and there are 64 and 128GB variants. Neither variant has an option for expanded storage.
The cost in China is CNY 3,000 ($475 USD) for 64GB and CNY 3,300 ($525 USD) for 128GB.
