root-mtk6589We recently posted a tutorial on how to root MTK6589. We’ve now come across a new root method that is compatible with a whopping 122 MTK phones and should work with many others, as many MTK phones use ported and similar ROMs. This Graphical Auto-Root is also compatible with MTK6575, MTK6577 and most likely older versions of MTK chipset as well.

NOTE: We now have an updated thread on how to create TWRP custom recovery for the newer SoC China phones such as MT6735 MT6753, MT6755. This method does not require root. Please see the thread linked here. If you’ve got an older phone with MT65xx type SoC, you can continue on with this tutorial.

The files you’ll need:

What to do:

  1. Make sure USB debugging is enabled. Go to settings > developer options > enable USB debugging
  2. Install the PDAnet Drivers
  3. Extract the Graphical Auto Root file from the .rar download
  4. Connect your phone to PC visa USB
  5. Run the extracted .exe
  6. You will see some Chinese mumbo. Tap the button and it will begin to root your MTK6589, MTK6577, MTK6575 phone
  7. After finished, now reboot
  8. Bam, you’re rooted. Verify root with a ‘Root Checker’ app from Play, or run any app you know requires root and you should see a root permissions request

    i am using zen ultrafone 501. this is not working on my fone. my root is locked and your process is working on my fone please tell me if you have any other way because i already search the whole internet

      Yes. It should. Check out the forum, there are 7 different quick root methods there. It’s more about version of Android than it is about chipset. Would be great to see your review of the THL T100 as well.

    When you connect your phone to your computer and when you actually root it, does your smartphone has to be turned off or turn on ?

    Thanks for the links and Tutorial! Worked like a charm on my “CAT B15” (Caterpillar ruggedized phone) with MT6577.
    The installed app “KingUser” is in english here, so no need to switch to superUser or similar.
    “Su version 3.30” and “Software version 3.3.5 52” are shown.

    I tried this on my C2 phone, but even after loads of tries and reboots, the phone is still not rooted.
    But worse, now , when I connect the phone to any PC, with or without the correct driver installed, It can’t see any of the files on the phone or the SD card.
    I get two extra drive letters, but in each case it asks me to insert media into the drive, like an empty dvd or USB card-holder.
    Drive management (in XP) lists them as drives, but also says “no media”.

    File management on the phone shows me that all files are still there, but I can’t up- or download any to PC

    Does anyone have any ideas, please?

      There are 7 different quick root methods at Chinaphonearena. I recommend you try them all. The issue with USB mounting SD is very unlikely to have anything to do with this. The drivers are entirely different.

    Hi guys I’m so newbie sorry — I need to auto root my China MTK6582 as with current original software isnt taking GPS signal when I move overseas (I bought it in Italy and now in Australia it doesnt get any GPS signal) but I am stuck with the links to downloading the auto root software. PDAdotnet was successfully installed and PC-Phone connected. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

    hi damian! i have root my 809T mtk6582 with a different root i had tried these way with no success however i tried to flash with carlivtouch but could not when i go into recovery i get the anroid man with “no command” what have i done??? lol and how can i fix this??

    It worked on Mpai 809t (MTK6592-octacore) on rom (20140719_e2719v92_hydy_hd_oppo_x425 )

    But the chinese app does more… but i cannot read chinese ;) it looks like the chinese app also does Super User authorisation management?
