Download Google Keyboard!
One of the most frustrating errors you can get is “item isn’t supported in your country”. Recently, Google made their excellent keyboard available on Google Play, however users in certain countries weren’t supported. That included me. So now that we’ve obtained it, we’d like to make it available to anyone who needs Google Keyboard.
We can highly recommend the newer version of Google Keyboard over the version that comes with Android Jelly Bean. Previously I had been using Honso’s very good Multiling ‘O’ Keyboard. It’s excellent for customization of size, colors, style, but when it comes to correction accuracy it leaves a lot to be desired. There are also few bugs and logistics issues that often left me frustrated with the use of Multiling. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great keyboard. Easily the best free one, but I need a keyboard I can type super quick and fast and be confident that it will pick up common mistypes and interpret what I’ve intended.
Since I’ve switched over to Google Keyboard, I haven’t looked back. It also now has swipe functionality that I’ve found to be accurate and excellently interprets what you’ve intended to swipe.
New version 4.0.21173.1568296 (posted 13-NOV-2014)
Installation instructions:
- Download and extract the .apk to your SD card
- From Homescreen > Menu button > Settings > Security > Check ‘Unknown sources’
- Open your favorite file / folder navigator (I use ES Explorer)
- Navigate to the file you copied to your SD and tap it.
- Select ‘Install’ and tap ‘next’.
- After installing, select ‘open’ and follow the instructions from Google
- Alternatively after installing you can go into settings and select Google Keyboard as your default keyboard
Bam, that’s it. Enjoy Google Keyboard.
