Xiaomi needs no introduction to China brand enthusiasts. Indeed, the brand is well known to many who don’t even follow China mobiles.

Xiaomi got their start with the very good MIUI OS and decided to make the full leap into handset manufacturing shortly thereafter.

They’ve made some excellent moves, not only by producing solid mobiles at good price points, but by putting out very affordable tablets, smart wrist bands, headphones, power banks, air purifiers and WiFi routers.

The beauty of Qualcomm’s recently released Snapdragon 810, is that it pushes down the cost of Qualcomm’s previous flagship SoC, Snapdragon 801.

We’ve had several recently released budget and mid-priced mobiles coming with this flagship SoC, and Xiaomi has joined the fray.

I really like the styling of the Mi4. It’s slim, square and has a full-metal magnesium alloy backpiece with perfect angles; it all comes together to give an understated look and feel of slick quality.

LTE is left off of this model, but it carries worldwide GSM (2G/Edge) and WCDMA (3G/H/H+).

The 16GB storage should be enough for most users. It’s not a phone you’ll be able to store huge music or movie collections on, but does provide enough space for a couple of hundred app installs and hundreds of pictures. The huge 3GB RAM is beyond adequate for the average consumer and plenty for power users as well. The very powerful Snapdragon 801 ensures that CPU intensive tasks are handled speedily.

One of the big pluses of the Xiaomi Mi4 is their decision to go with the Sony IMX214 for the rear camera. This is a very good sensor, generally producing sharp images with solid dynamic range and color.

If you’re looking for a well-priced mobile with a very powerful SoC, from a handset maker who is known for quality, consider the Xiaomi Mi4.
