Xiaomi has risen to the top in an incredibly short time. Taking huge bites out of Apple and Samsung’s pockets and seemingly continuing to rise at an exponential rate, expanding into most Asian markets at the retail level, as well as Brazil. They have come to be the #3 handset maker in the world, bested only by Samsung and Apple in terms of overall handset sales.

Part of their success is due to producing great phones at a reasonable price point, but the other part has to do with aggressively spreading themselves outside of China. On top of this is their continually coming out with new electronic products with the Xiaomi branding.

One of the more recent ones is the Xiaomi tablet, dubbed Mi Pad. Seems like just yesterday, but here we are with the second iteration to the series– Mi Pad 2.

Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 specs specifications

  • SoC: Intel Atom X5-Z8500
  • CPU: 64bit [email protected], 14nm process
  • GPU: Intel HD Graphics Gen8
  • OS: Android 5.1
  • RAM: 2GB
  • ROM storage: 16GB / 64GB (2 versions available)
  • Display: IPS 2048*[email protected]
  • Rear camera: 8MP
  • Front camera: 5MP
  • Battery: 6190mAh

In terms of design, Xiaomi has opted to keep things simple; the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 resembles a large phone, with power and volume on the side and a uniform back/side. There are rear firing stereo speakers on the back at the bottom, and a single USB-C port at the very base of the tablet.

Notably, the Mi Pad 2 is 18% thinner than the first generation Mi Pad 1, and 32g lighter.

Powerwise, the Mi Pad 2 carries Intel’s new Cherry Trail Z8500. This is a very powerful SoC, with Intel’s latest Gen8 GPU graphics.

Taking a look at the cameras, the Mi Pad 2 doesn’t carry the typical 2MP or 5MP rear camera, but a camera with a very solid resolution of 8MP. The front camera at 5MP is shooting above the 2MP par as well.

The display on the Mi Pad 2 is a very dense 2048*1536. While I usually don’t recommend tablets with this high of a resolution, the new Cherry Trail SoC should be able to push it without issue.

If you’re looking for a mid-ranged Android tablet, from a brand we know and trust, consider the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2.
