Several recently released China phones have marketed themselves as carrying Helio P25, but upon closer investigation, it looks as if they are actually carrying Helio P20. (more…)

Ultra budget great choice
Ulefone is one of the long runners in the China phone market and they have released an ultra-budget model, the Ulefone S8 Pro.
This phone has been tested by trusted associates and it’s so good they’ve ordered multiple units to be sold through their local shops.
Main Features:
- Display: 5.3 inch, 1280 x 720 Pixel screen
- CPU: MTK6737 Quad Core 1.3GHz
- System: Android 7.0
- RAM + ROM: 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM
- Camera: 5.0MP front camera + 13.0MP + 5.0MP back cameras
- Sensor: E-Compass, Gravity Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Touch Sensor
- SIM Card: dual SIM dual standby. Micro + Micro SIM
- Feature: GPSA / GPS
- Bluetooth: 4.0
- 2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
- 3G: WCDMA 850/900/2100MHz
- 4G: FDD-LTE 800/900/2100/2600MHz
Notably, the SoC MT6737, which is a nice step above MT6580 usually included in ultra-budget models. This is SOC includes 4 Cortex-A53 cores at 1.3GHz. These are the same cores as featured in Helio P20, for example, but clocked lower.
It also includes Android 7.0, a healthy 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, a respectable 3000mAh battery, and notably, the display is 5.3″, which makes it a step more compact than typical 5.5″.
The Ulefone S8 Pro is also Google Certified, which means Ulefone has gone through the rigorous testing process required for certification. Google Certification implies the ROM has been properly coded, all specs are genuine, and that there should be no funky Chinese apps included in the ROM. Good job Ulefone.
I’ve tested quite a few Ulefones over the years and they’ve all been very good phones. If you’re looking for an ultra-budget model, the Ulefone S8 is a good bet.

3GB 1080P 6050mAh Ulefone Power preview
Ulefone got their start mostly making Samsung clones, but as of a year or so back they began developing their own styles. The Ulefone Be Pro, while looking very much like the OnePlus One, wasn’t really a clone. They then went on to develop the popular Ulefone Be Touch, one of the slicker phones I’ve had a chance to review. (more…)

2GB budget Ulefone Be Pro preview
Ulefone has been around long enough now to be considered one of the veteran China brands. They broke ground with the OnePlus One look alike– Ulefone Be Pro, and the iPhone 6 lookalike– Ulefone Be Touch. I liked both of these phones, and at the time they were a good buy.
Deciding to reboot the Ulefone Be Pro, we now have the Ulefone Be Pro 2.

For a good portion of time, quite a few models were including 850/900/1900/2100 WCDMA. Over the last couple of months though, they have dropped off in favor of mostly 900/1900 from Doogee, Elephone and Oukitel.
This is sad to see, but brands such as Xiaomi, Innos, Mlais, Lenovo and Ulefone are still carrying the torch releasing budget priced phones with N/C/S American WCDMA frequencies.
The SoC on the Ulefone Be Pro 2 is MT6735, which I’ve found to be very capable. It actually carries the same core type, Cortex-A53, as the super-powered Helio X10, albeit at a lower clock speed.Great also to see a compass included. This should be a default sensor for any phone in the $125+ range, but seems to be missing from some phones costing even far more. While I rarely to never have a use for compasses, they can come in handy when walking in unfamiliar cities.

If you’re looking for a budget mobile and have a carrier that supports the above mentioned frequencies, consider the Ulefone Be Pro 2. -
