Huge step up for JiaYu, as they will soon release the JiaYu S1. The JiaYu S1 is clearly an attempt to compete with the big boys such as Xiaomi, Meizu, Samsung and HTC. At least feature wise, this is a very viable option for those looking for something a bit more high-end than what MTK6589T currently offers. (more…)

Gizbeat was a bit skeptical we’d see MTK6589T smart phones released before the end of the month, but already we’ve got at least two phones shipping with the MTK6589T. We recently posted a preview of the MTK6589T and some of the differences between it and the standard MTK6589.
MTK6589T is an exciting new chipset with a significant boost in GPU and CPU power. Though the majority of phones initially coming out with MTK6589T will be 1080p, within the next couple months we should see some 720p options as well which will be an excellent choice for demanding 3D games. (more…)

Within the next couple weeks, we should see several MTK6589 models available for sale internationally. The three models I’ve personally got my eye on are the Cubot A6589, the THL W8 and the Star N9589. My preference isn’t for such huge screened LCDs as are featured in the Cubot and the Star models, but it seems the trend is going towards larger and larger LCDs. As we use our smartphones for more and more mainstream tasks, the trend may be warranted. (more…)
